When I was a little girl, my favorite fairy tales was always about beautiful princesses living in castles. They’d have princes arriving on white horses to win their hearts over. They’d be living together happily ever after. Reading these fairy tales I always pictured myself wearing a splendid princess gown and sitting in the tower of my own castle.
At the end of my Hungary trip, these childhood dreams of mine kinda came true, as I got to live in Hotel Baltazar Budapest. It’s situated right inside the territory of a real castle, the most privileged location in Budapest.

The Location
Hotel Baltazar Budapest is located in the old Buda Castle area. It looks like a small medieval town from an old movie. Quiet, with cobble-stone streets, historical architecture and panoramic views of the rest of the city.
Just as any real old-time castles, it’s located on the castle hill above the city, all covered with high castle walls, historically protecting the area from intruders. If you have ever been to one of the Baltic capitals, you’ll recognize how this Buda Castle district might be just like a mini version of the Riga or Tallinn Old Town.
Honestly, you don’t even have to be a fan of princess fairy tales in order to feel the special aura that living in a castle area offers.
You just feel like a royalty there. Even more so as some of your neighboring buildings nearby are Buda Castle and the Fisherman’s Bastion.
The castle hill area feels very harmonic and peaceful. In the daytime, it’s great to explore the labyrinths of the ancient streets, while in the evenings you can watch the city lights of Budapest over the castle district walls. Look any direction you’d like, the views displaying the city at all its nighttime glory will be breathtaking.
There’s a public bus stop within the castle district 1 min walk from the hotel. There is also a metro station nearby, making the place well-connected with the rest of the city.
Next to the metro station, there’s a large shopping center, grocery store, and different cafes/ restaurants for a nice meal. However, right in the nearby area surrounding the hotel, there are several cozy little restaurants, where you’ll find great Hungarian meals.

Hotel Vibe
The fact that Baltazar Budapest hotel is situated within the castle walls, radiates inside the hotel, that’s decorated in a very charming way. Once you approach the hotel from the outside and enter the bar/ reception area, you get kind of New York Broadway-style vibe.
With dimmed lights and shades of ruby-red & black, the leather, mirror and light bulb embellished bar area lets you know right away that you’re in for a seductively thrilling getaway.
Hotel Baltazar Budapest is a family owned small boutique design hotel, offering their guests a personal experience and positive atmosphere. The hotel tells its story through the appearance, thoughtful small details, design elements, vintage furniture, and artworks.
The Sleep
The uniqueness of Baltazar Budapest hotel radiates all over the place, from the public areas to guest rooms. Having only 11 rooms and suites, each room offers one of a kind experience.
Each of them is decorated in a unique eclectic style, with individual themes, color schemes, and artworks. Some of the artworks are Vivienne Westwood, Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, and Jean-Michel Basquiat inspired.
Hotel Baltazar offers different size rooms and suites, but overall this hotel seems like the perfect fit for romantic getaways with the person you love. The romantic low lighting, cozy size of the room and just the overall vibe makes you wanna share it with someone special.
The room will offer you pretty much everything you need. A large comfortable bed with soft pillows and blankets will make you feel like you’re sleeping in a cloud. Beautifully designed bathrooms with a relaxing bathtub or a rain shower is a pleasure after a long day exploring Budapest.
Each of the rooms have their individual heating, air conditioning, TV, a music player and the smart lighting system. That makes it possible to create a perfect mood in the room. I am still so excited about the quality toiletries in the bathroom.
I love the french natural cosmetics L’Occitane and use them myself in a daily life. What a perfect coincidence. This pleasant surprise just adds to the overall quality of the hotel and shows how highly the guests are appreciated here.

The Taste
The Baltazar Budapest hotel is the place for a gastronomical food experience. The first floor of the hotel is a hotel bar and a restaurant Baltazar Hungarian Grill. They offer a variety of choice in a breakfast menu, so as the lunch and dinner.
All dishes are hand-made of high-quality products. There’s a magnificent choice of gourmet street food, different meats, the best grills, and nice vegetarian options.
The best part about each dish at the Baltazar Grill it the simplicity and creativity. All their dishes are a top restaurant quality, being especially delicious when paired with a nice wine.
We definitely recommend this place for couples or even newlyweds on a romantic holiday. The charm and intimate atmosphere at Baltazar Budapest offers a perfect relaxation away from the dynamic city noise.
